Why your competitor looks more luxurious than you, and what CGI can change
There are brands whose product is not fundamentally better than yours, whose price is similar, whose distribution is comparable, and yet they project something yours does not. An impression of superiority, care, desirability. Often the difference does not come from the product. It comes from the image.
The visual, the first positioning signal
Before reading a single line of text, before looking at a price, the consumer perceives. They perceive the quality of the photograph, the mastery of the light, the precision of the material rendering. A poorly photographed bottle, with a stray reflection or a slightly imprecise focus, communicates something despite itself. It says: this brand did not invest in the details. Or: this brand does not pay attention.
This judgement forms in a few milliseconds. And it is difficult to undo afterwards, even with a good product and a strong brand narrative.
What the major brands understood
The houses that have occupied the top of the market for a long time understood something essential: visual investment is not a cost, it is a pricing lever. A product presented with impeccable visuals sells for more, turns over faster, and generates less hesitation at the point of purchase. Perceived quality rises. And perceived quality is what justifies the price in the consumer's eyes.
This is not a question of unlimited budget. It is a question of priority and tools. And CGI redistributed the cards on this front.
CGI as an equaliser
For a long time, a truly high-end packshot render required significant production budgets: a well-equipped studio, an experienced technical team, several days of shooting. This was accessible to major houses, less so to independent or growing brands.
CGI changed this equation. A well-built, well-lit 3D model produces visuals that rival the best photo productions, for a fraction of the budget. And above all, it is reusable. Every additional variation, every new angle, every colour variant costs a fraction of the initial cost. What was a structural advantage for the largest brands is now accessible to all.
Consistency, what the best visuals have in common
What distinguishes brands that seem premium from those that do not is not always one exceptional visual. It is consistency. A visual universe that holds across all media, all formats, all seasons. A recognisable lighting approach. A way of treating materials that becomes a signature.
CGI encourages this consistency because everything starts from the same model, the same lighting parameters, the same shaders. The variability inherent in photo shoots, which depends on the conditions of the day, the team present, the mood on set, disappears. What you produce in January looks exactly like what you produce in September.
If you look at your brand's visuals next to those of a competitor that seems visually superior, ask yourself one question: is it a product issue, or a rendering issue? In the vast majority of cases, it is the rendering. And that is something we can change.
